What is the master category for?

The Master Category is created to give you the ability to set up all category content and layout (apart from products) throughout your shop in one action. That is, each category can appear in one, two or three columns. The columns can include copy, library images (photos and graphics) and product groups. Once you have set up the master category the rest of the categories will follow suit. This means that you can quickly and easily add common content to all your categories.

Alternatively if you would like a particular category to have a different appearance or content you can edit that category individually. This will override master category settings. Note that sub categories inherit content and layout from their parent category ie if you make a change to the content of a certain category, then changes will apply to it’s sub categories (unless overridden in turn)
