Creating your shop

How do I manage pages?

You can manage your pages, which means you control the order in which your pages appear within the main navigation bar. You can also reorder the pages within the header and the footer areas.

The location of the navigation link for a page cannot be changed here. In other words, if your About page is within the Main Navigation, it cannot be moved to Footer Navigation. To change the link location please refer to the instructions for ‘How do I edit a page?’.

To manage your pages follow the instructions below.

  1. Place your mouse over ‘Edit’ on the admin bar, which appears at the top of the page when logged in. This will open a drop down menu, click on Manage pages. This will open the ‘Manage pages’ page.
  2. Click on the chosen page and drag and drop it into its new position. To drag the page, place your mouse over the page name. Click on the page name and keep your finger on the mouse. Keeping your finger on the mouse, move the page up or down to the desired location and drop it by releasing your finger from the mouse.
  3. You will see that the order of your pages has now changed on the main navigation bar.

Categories can also be managed. Please refer to How do I manage categories (change the order in which they appear)? for instructions.

NOTE: The header area is at the top right hand side of your website. The footer area is at the bottom right hand side of your website.

What is the Flash library for?

Your flash library is where you store flash files such as animations and video for use within your pages, categories and subcategories. This should not be confused with product images which are uploaded through your shop catalogue.

How do I add a flash file to my flash library?

  1. To add a flash file to the flash library click on ‘Edit’ then ‘Flash Library’. This will open the ‘Manage your flash library’ page.
  2. Click on the ‘Upload new file’ button. This will open a box below with a ‘Browse’ button.
  3. Click on the ‘Browse’ button. This will take you to your computer where you can search for the correct flash file. When you find your flash file click on the ‘Select’ button at the bottom right hand side of the window. You will now see the flash file uploading. When loading is complete you will see the image file listed below ‘Filename’ underneath ‘Manage your flash library’ at the top of the page. This means that the file is now in your Flash Library ready to access when you go to add it to a page or category.

How do I set up a domain for my shop?

ORS:On gives you a free yourcompany.orson2.com subdomain for your shop. But let us suppose you want your shop to be available at www.yourcompany.com and have also registered www.yourcompany.co.uk so that if someone enters this address, they get redirected to your .com address.

When you are ready to go live with www.yourcompany.com, log into your ORS:On admin and go to Settings -> Domains. On this page, enter the domain that you wish to be the primary for your shop – in this case yourcompany.com. In the redirecting domains field, enter your other domain yourcompany.co.uk. Save the changes.

Then please go to the registrar (the company you bought the domain(s) with originally) and using their control panel, setup a CNAME record for the www record to yourcompany.orson2.com.

Each domain registration has a unique control panel layout but a typical procedure would be:

  1. Administer Domain Names
  2. Administer DNS  (for each domain you own – eg myco.co.uk  and myco.com)
  3. Add DNS record (choose CNAME)
  4. Set domain to www
  5. Set type to CNAME
  6. Set alias to yourcompany.orson2.com

Note: Do not use an A record (IP Address) to point your domain to ORS:On. IP addresses are subject to change over time, which can leave your shop inaccessible. Also, do not use “web forwarding” as this typically uses a frameset and will hinder your search engine ranking.

The changes can take up to 48hrs to become fully available. As soon as the dns has been updated, your shop will become available on it’s new domain(s).

If you are having difficulty with this please contact us direct.

ORS:On allows you to organise your products by department or product category. You can have main categories and subcategories within. For example, a main category could be “Rings” which has subcategories of “Gold Rings” and “Silver Rings”. Within “Silver Rings” you could create further subcategories of “Men’s Silver Rings” and “Ladies Silver Rings”.

Products can be assigned to multiple categories, which allow you to create, for example, a special promotion category of certain products.
